 Gypsum Underlayments as Sound Control
Gypsum underlayments alone provide sound control when used as the sole underlayment. Apartments, hotels, motels and assisted living and retirement facilities almost exclusively use gypsum underlayments in their second stories and above. These projects use the gypsum underlayment floor system because it provides both added sound control and fire control. In this way, gypsum underlayments installed by Ultra Quiet Floors are an economical way for a building to meet its STC or IIC sound requirements or codes.
Enkasonic Sound Control Matting
For more than 10 years, sound control requirements have become more and more stringent, especially in some cities where contractors must provide proof that commercial buildings meet certain sound requirements between floors. The construction industry has responded to these challenges by combining a sound control matting, called Enkasonic, with gypsum underlayments to decrease the sound transmission between floors. Today, condominiums, luxury townhouses, hotels and motels are the primary recipients of this combination system.
